Motic Instructions

  1. Connect the Motic camera
  2. Open Motic software - open finder - click applications - open Motic
  3. File ---> new (make sure live video is checked). If a screen doesn't open, shut down and try again.
  4. Get a good picture.

The moticam can measure the cell size for you. Choose Measure -->Calibration wizard.
  • Set the magnification of the lens - use a 10x or 40x
  • Make sure you put in the field diameter of the low power or high power lens you are using (do you remember these from the beginning of the year?)

To take a picture: use file --> autocapture
  • Make sure you save to the desktop (you will need to change this as the default is a different folder)
  • Also be sure you change the format to jpeg (.mix is the default and does not load to the wiki and cannot be converted later)

Rules for creating notes

1. Only post meaningful, relevant information on your topic.
2. Summarize all information found on the Net and link to it. Regurgitation is not cool (even if it is spitting back actual text).
3. Continue to read your topic and ask -- "What do I not understand about this?" Proceed to answer that question and post your findings. Make it make sense and be able to explain it. I want to know what you THINK.
4. Use some of the websites you read about.
5. Do not delete information of another group unless it is redundant or it needs to be edited to make it better. Remember the difference between collaborating and vandalism.
6. You may be asked to summarize your information in class.

This will now be an m4a file. Use the edit bar in the wiki and choose the Insert Images and files icon to upload your podcast.

Using your cell phone to make a podcast

Use your cell phone and create a podcast using :
Gcast - uses an (888) number - please chec your cell phone plan before using
Snapvine - does not use a toll free number

Embedding Voicethread - working around problems

Use the following Voicethread code to copy and paste and then embed in the other html widget box. Just replace the 5 digit number - the 38354 that appears here twice - with your voicethread code - may be 5 or 6 numbers - your code appears in the share options - look for the code that is 5 or 6 numbers):

<object width="800" height="600"><param name="movie" value="http://voicethread.com/book.swf?b=38354" />
<param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
<embed src="http://voicethread.com/book.swf?b=38354" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="800" height="600" /></object>
